Über das Special Issue
Das Aufkommen von Lebensmittelgeographien spiegelt das wachsende gesellschaftliche Interesse an sozialen, politischen und ökologischen Fragen im Zusammenhang mit Lebensmitteln, einschließlich nachhaltiger und gerechter Lebensmittelsysteme, wider. Diese Studien bieten eine geographische Perspektive auf die städtische Produktion, Zubereitung und den Konsum von Lebensmitteln, die dekoloniale, feministische und intersektionale Ansätze einbezieht. Die Verlagerung der Lebensmittelpolitik auf die städtische Ebene wird als Lösung für die negativen Auswirkungen und sozialen Ungerechtigkeiten von Lebensmittelproduktion und -konsum gesehen. In Anerkennung der Bedeutung von Ernährung unterzeichneten Städte 2015 den Mailänder Pakt für urbane Ernährungspolitik, der die Notwendigkeit eines sozial-ökologischen Wandels für urbane Nachhaltigkeit betont. Öffentliche Verpflegung und zivilgesellschaftliche Initiativen wie Ernährungsräte spielen eine entscheidende Rolle beim Übergang zu nachhaltigen Ernährungssystemen und bei der Förderung demokratischer Teilhabe. In diesem Themenheft soll die Rolle der Lebensmittelgeographie bei der Erforschung sozio-ökologischer Übergänge für eine nachhaltige Stadt bewertet werden, wobei eine kritische Bewertung und interdisziplinäre Perspektiven gefördert werden sollen.

About the special issue
The rise of food geographies reflects society’s growing concern with social, political and environmental issues related to food, including sustainable and just food systems. These studies offer a geographical perspective on urban food production, preparation and consumption, incorporating decolonial, feminist and intersectional approaches. Shifting food policy to the urban level is seen as a solution to address the negative impacts and social injustices of food production and consumption. Recognising the importance of food, cities signed the Milan Covenant on Urban Food Policy in 2015, emphasising the need for socio-ecological transitions for urban sustainability. Public catering and civil society initiatives, such as food policy councils, play a crucial role in the transition towards sustainable food systems and in promoting democratic participation. This thematic issue aims to assess the importance of food geographies in exploring socio-ecological transitions for a sustainable city, encouraging critical evaluation and interdisciplinary perspectives.
